A general complaint on childhood trauma trope

This is not written to undermine the damage of childhood trauma and loss of parents nor to diminish the representatives of those background in entertainment media, though I still might sound insensitive. I'm currently a bit tired of this trait being presented in many fictional setting that creators tend to use it as an “easy character development solution”.

It is common for main characters of any entertainment media to be presented as parent-less. Whether they're orphan, divorced parents, broken family, unwanted child, or they lost their parents throughout the story. All in all, childhood trauma makes a solid foundation for certain personality traits.

Or should I say, the easiest way?

Want a character who's depressed and cold? Childhood trauma.

Want a character who's a people pleaser, always looked happy and energetic? Childhood trauma.

It's getting repetitive.

I know we could clearly see that everything does start from home. People can be broken or be nurtured by their families. After all, family is the first community and social interactions a person usually had.

New authors and artists, can you make your main character to have parents and still have solid personality and interesting dynamics?

If you really need to make them grow up lacking parental figures, at least re-think a few times to consider if it really is necessary for the story.
